Ciao House, Food Network’s next culinary competition, will send ten aspiring chefs to Italy on Sunday, April 16, 2023, at 9 p.m. ET.
Candidates for the upcoming culinary competition will live and compete in a beautiful Italian villa, navigating the competition as individuals and teams. As one chef is eliminated each week, the ultimate goal is to be the last chef standing. Mahoney, a Mirate employee from Los Angeles, will take part in the upcoming tournament.

Jess Mahoney, who works in Mirate’s Los Feliz kitchen, is one of ten people who will take part in the culinary reality show. She started her career at Son of a Gun, a seafood restaurant, where she made scallop crudo with gin and citrus in herb oil. The vegan skateboard butcher spoke with LA Weekly about her participation in the upcoming tournament.
Tuscany, according to the Ciao House candidate, is similar to California in many ways. She noted that the geography of the Italian city reminded her of California, as did the city’s passion for fresh food, which she had witnessed many times. Jess continued, saying:
“We are on the cutting edge of knowing where our food comes from and how animals were treated.” It is preferable for Italy to keep things as close to home as possible.”
The Ciao House contestant went on to say that while she was aware of the show’s status as a reality show, it wasn’t “one of those look hot in a bikini.” As a result, she hopes to build a large social media following. She stated that people in her company would watch the show because she prefers to be true to herself rather than focusing solely on winning. Jess likened herself to a sponge and expressed her desire to learn throughout her time on the program.
She went on to say that meeting and working with so many different chefs was her favorite part of being on the Food Network show. She went on to say that in the United States, Italian cuisine is associated with “heavy bowls of carbs with hot tomato sauce on top.” The program, however, is more than that because it showcases a variety of Tuscan cuisine.

Ciao House, hosted and judged by Alex Guarnaschelli and Gabriele Bertaccini, will transport the 20 finalists to Tuscany to live and cook together.
According to the official press release for the show:
“From real-life nonnas demonstrating how to make homemade pasta from scratch to a lesson with the head butcher of a three-century-old family butcher business, each challenge is accompanied by a traditional local experience.”
