Lauren Cook, John Cook’s daughter, began playing volleyball at Lincoln Pius X. Lauren was a standout player who helped Pius win three straight Class B state titles. Lauren, John, and Wendy Cook’s eldest kid is 32 years old and was born in 1991. Lauren was named first-team all-state in all three of her final three seasons at Lincoln.

Volleyball Magazine awarded her an All-American, and she set a state record with 4,399 assists while playing setter. Lauren continued her volleyball career at UCLA after graduating from Lincoln. Lauren only played volleyball for one year at UCLA, but she made an impression.

In 2009, she was named the AVCA National Freshman of the Year after averaging 10.69 assists, 2.44 digs, 0.77 kills, and 0.40 blocks per set. She was also the first Bruins player to be honored in this manner. Lauren left UCLA to attend the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Lauren was forced to leave UCLA due to academic concerns.

The event planning major was not available at UCLA, but it was added during Lauren’s sophomore year at Nebraska. Lauren stated that LA culture influenced her decision to return home. Lauren, a self-described small-town Nebraska child, went on to play at Nebraska for three years.

Lauren played setter alongside two-time All-American Sydney Anderson at Nebraska. In her senior year, Lauren was named co-captain and first-team All-Big Ten. She garnered numerous awards while at Nebraska and is still linked with the team. Lauren and her father co-host the podcast Kicking Back with the Cooks. Taylor Cook, John Cook’s son, has remained out of the spotlight. The former athlete was the youngest child of a women’s volleyball coach at the University of Nebraska. Taylor’s sister was a strong volleyball player at Lincoln Pius, so Taylor also played football.

Taylor was given a second chance to finish his senior year at Lincoln in 2012 after missing the previous academic year due to stress fractures in his lower back. Taylor informed the Lincoln Journal Star in 2012 that he had stopped playing baseball due to lower back issues but planned to rejoin the golf team the following spring.

Taylor also stated that he acquired his pilot’s license and flew to Europe with his father during the gap. In an earlier interview, John admitted that attending Taylor’s events was always tough due to their conflicting schedules. Taylor lived in Boise, Idaho, according to a Big 10 Central interview with the volleyball coach published in 2019.
