In 2017, Layshia Clarendon and Jessica Dolan got married. The wife of Layshia is a former basketball player who now works in marketing. After being traded from the Indiana Fever the previous season, Clarendon was a crucial member of the Atlanta Dream at the time. She was awarded the coveted title of Female Hero of the Year by Outsports in 2015.
On the other side, Dolan oversaw female athletes and Olympians at the sports marketing and entertainment company Wasserman. Similar to Clarendon, Jessica had previously worked with the University of California women’s basketball team while she was a player, most notably in 2013 when she helped Cal to their first-ever Final Four berth.
Dolan wrote an emotional blog post earlier that year about her friendship with a black woman and how it affected the way she saw the world. Clarendon gladly embraced the position of a “activist” athlete, speaking out courageously against racism, misogyny, and homophobia, like many other athletes.

In December 2020, the couple gave birth to their child, known as “#babyC,” in the maternity recovery room of a hospital in the Bay room.
Layshia’s wife Jessica just underwent a cesarean surgery following a 29-hour labor and a more than 41-week pregnancy. While Jessica was recovering, Layshia had some quality time with her first child alone. The baby, referred to as infant C and addressed with they/them pronouns, apparently replied with gurgles and squirms after being calmed by Layshia.
The delighted parents planned to decide on the child’s name after the infant was born but they arrived at the hospital without a firm decision. However, it took them another two days to settle on a name. They have chosen to withhold the name from the public and keep it a secret. Layshia claimed that the arrival of Baby C had a profound impact on her, reaffirming their commitment to working for a more fair society. She has stated that they intend to raise the child from a gender inclusive perspective.
