Everyone is curious about Linda Plentl, the daughter of Hughie Green, who made an appearance on “This Morning.” Due to his talent show Opportunity Knocks, Green has been a household name on British television for more than 20 years!
The TV host had a hand in many of the biggest variety acts of the 1960s and 1970s becoming well-known. When he was just 14 years old, he performed at 700 shows in one year.
He also had a touring concert party and his own radio show. He has toured Canada before making his film debut in Radio Pirates. Not too long afterward, a significant role in Midshipman Easy emerged.
Green filmed a couple more films after serving in the Royal Canadian Air Force during World War II, but his biggest fame came from hosting Double Your Money, an ITV original game show, from 1955 until 1968.
Linda Plentl: Who Is She?
Linda Plentl is the daughter of Hughie Green, a British television star and one of the most powerful men in the business who hosted the wildly popular program Opportunity Knocks.
Living in a fifth-floor apartment on Baker Street in London, Claire Wilson and Hughie Green raised their two children, Christopher and Linda.
When Green was still a teenager, she met Montreal socialite Claire Wilson on a cruise ship in the middle of the 1930s. They were married in 1942 and settled in Montreal before moving to London in 1947.
But because of his numerous relationships and self-obsession—which included costly vacations and often spending Christmas alone—Green’s children characterized it as “very dysfunctional.”
Following their brief courtship, Green and Gwen Claremont separated in 1961 and were divorced in March 1975. Later that year, Claire married David Langton, star of Upstairs, Downstairs.
Although Hughie Green’s daughter asserts that the opposite was truly true, his biographical film Hughie Green, Most Sincerely presents him as a family man.
She recalls a family holiday they took where they stayed in a dirty, leaky houseboat on the Thames in the pouring rain. He tied the boat to a bridge in Maidenhead and left Linda, her brother, and Claire there.
Hughie Green’s daughter, a mother of four who was married twice and is now in her late 70s, has a happy and stable family life. She recalls that Hughie was infrequently with them and had the ability to frighten them without ever having to touch them.
Before Yates passed away in 1999, Plentl had three interactions with Paula Yates, the daughter of Hughie Green and Elaine Smith. Green was Paula’s biological father, according to a DNA test performed after her husband passed away.
Television Host Hughie Green Biography:
Hugh Aitchison Green was born in Marylebone, London, to an English mother named Violet Elenore from Survey, an Irish gardener’s daughter, and a Scottish father who was a former British Army officer from Glasgow and made money by selling canned fish to the armed forces.
The father operated the business out of the Savoy Hotel and frequently stayed there, while the children lived with their mother, who had multiple partners, in the family’s home in Meopham, Kent.
Green went to Arnold House School, a boys’ prep school, located in the Westminster, Greater London, area of St. John’s Wood. After the family business failed, Green’s father encouraged his stage-obsessed son to pursue acting, and at the age of 14, Hughie Green had his own BBC Radio program.
He became well-known in 1955 as a result of the ITV game show Double Your Money, which had its beginnings several years earlier on Radio Luxembourg.
Green was diagnosed with oesophageal cancer and brought to the Royal Marsden Hospital in Chelsea, London. Green had been a lifelong pipe smoker, heavy drinker, and recent addition to the recreational barbiturates user base. By 1997, the cancer had spread to his lungs.
