Terry Beasley’s wife, Marlene Beasley, and the retired football star were married for 27 years. Terry died unexpectedly on January 31, just as the couple was preparing to commemorate their 28th anniversary.
Marlene and Terry did not meet in ideal circumstances. Terry was her patient when he initially arrived at the mental facility where she worked as a nurse, in 1992. However, their friendship grew stronger, and they decided to become lifetime partners. Terry Beasley, an Auburn legend, rose to popularity in football circles as a result of his dispute with the NFL.
Beasley, a two-time All-American, sustained numerous concussions throughout his playing career. His collaboration with Auburn Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Pat Sullivan has become a well-known story among football fans. The former 49ers player’s death is being investigated as probable suicide. Beasley was inducted into the College Hall of Fame in 2002, and Auburn retired his number 88 jersey, along with Sullivan and Bo Jackson.
Terry Beasley’s Wife: Marlene Beasley
Terry Beasley’s wife, Marlene Beasley, first met the former NFL player back in 1992. Marlene, a mental health nurse, didn’t want to fall in love with Terry, but they quickly began dating. In an interview, Marlene stated that the two immediately connected. Terry had been sent to a mental institution following a series of concussions that had made his life unpleasant.
Terry underwent two rounds of electroconvulsive therapy in the hospital, each lasting 18 sessions. The ache used to be excruciating, and Beasley worried it was more damaging than therapeutic. In February 1996, the pair married on Jordan-Hare Stadium’s 50-yard line.
After being misdiagnosed with a brain tumor, Marlene decided she didn’t want her lover to suffer alone, so she became his life companion. Terry and Marlene sued the NFL in 2012, along with hundreds of other athletes, in Georgia’s Northern District Court. The lawsuit was concluded in 2016.
When asked how her husband felt after discovering they had won the case, Marlene responded, “He just closed his eyes and laid his head back on the pillow.” “This has been a long and stressful struggle.” During her interview with the Columbus Ledger-Enquirer, Marlene stated her desire that the NFL be held accountable for what it did to the young men, alleging that those in charge of the league had no remorse.
At the time, Marlene stated that the funds would be utilized to purchase the prescriptions and give Terry with the necessary physical support. After marrying Terry, Marlene left her job to care for him.
