Season 44 of Survivor will premiere this week, with a new cast of characters competing for the grand prize and the title of “Single Survivor.”
One of the candidates scheduled to compete in the upcoming season is Matthew Blankinship, a Google software developer from California. As part of his Google job, he focuses on security and privacy algorithms. Survivor season 44 will premiere on CBS on Wednesday, March 1 at 8 p.m. ET.
Please welcome Matthew Blankinship, who will appear on Survivor season 44
The future Survivor season 44 cast member is 27 years old, from Albany, and now lives in San Francisco, California. The competitor earned a bachelor’s degree in computer science from Oberlin College in 2018. While in college, he also worked as a school tour guide. Matthew regards himself as upbeat, compassionate, and tenacious.
He worked as a Software Development Engineer at Amazon Lab126 for a year and a half before moving on to his current position as a Google software developer. According to Matthew, ten years ago he used to tell everyone who would listen that he was going to be on the show one day.
He used to be afraid to apply, but he is now eager to finish this unfinished business and is very excited about it. Matthew explained to Parade that being on the show is an emotional battle for him because he wants to prove to himself that he can do this “really difficult game.” He continued, saying:
“I believe that as a child, I was much more afraid of taking risks and being judged by others. And I believe I’ve matured considerably. This, however, will be the final test of my pain tolerance.”
According to the Survivor season 44 survivor, he was introduced to the show by a high school sweetheart. His friend thought the show was fantastic and encouraged them to watch it. Matthew has been watching the show on a daily basis since then, and appearing on it has always been a dream of his.
Yul is one of the winners with whom he has a strong connection, and he thinks it was “amazing” to see a half-Asian guy do so well on the show. He went on to say that Yul encouraged him to be on the show because he was one of the people he saw on TV and saw himself in.
The Survivor season 44 survivor went on to explain that he had to learn the hard way that not everything works out the first time, saying:
“Investing so much of yourself in something is difficult. I’ve auditioned for bands, applied to schools, and applied for jobs, all of which require a lot of yourself and a lot of hope for the future. You stutter because they reject you.”
