The couple is proud to be loving parents to three daughters, whose lives are filled with the joy and advantages of family. Sam Purcell is presently the head coach of Mississippi State’s women’s basketball program. The 2023-24 season will be his second year as head coach of Mississippi State’s women’s basketball program.
Before joining the Mississippi State coaching staff, Purcell gained valuable experience at Louisville, where he worked for nine seasons under the renowned Jeff Walz. Purcell had an important role in the team’s success during his time at Louisville, guiding the Cardinals to an impressive 266-48 overall record and eight NCAA Tournament appearances.
His legacy included four ACC Regular Season Championships and the 2018 ACC Tournament championship, which was significant for Louisville because it was the team’s first tournament win since 1993.

Sam Purcell, an Auburn University alumnus, and Meghan have been happily married for over 17 years. On August 5, 2006, the couple exchanged wedding vows to commemorate their union. Sam and Meghan are thrilled parents of three daughters: Reese, Rylee, and Reagan.
While little information on Meghan Purcell’s academic and career background is available, she does have an active Facebook presence. Meghan often provides glimpses of her family life, including images of her husband and children that capture the joy and affection that characterizes their relationship.
‘You Live for These Moments’
The Bulldogs beat the reigning national champions, No. 9 LSU, 77-73, with outstanding performances on both ends of the court. The historic event took place in front of a packed Humphrey Coliseum, which hosted 9,121 passionate Maroon and White fans, marking the first sellout at home under Sam Purcell’s tenure. Reflecting on the overwhelming support, Purcell admitted his astonishment upon arriving at the coliseum, adding,
“When I looked up at the Hump, I was taken aback to see a queue ready. I was like, “This is what I dreamed of.”
Mississippi State did not disappoint its dedicated fans. This victory marked the first time LSU suffered consecutive losses since the 2021-22 season when they lost to No. 1 South Carolina on Thursday.
As a result, the Tigers’ record fell to 18-4 (5-3 SEC), while Mississippi State rose to 17-5 (4-3). Purcell summarised the significance of the event, saying, “This is everything you dream of. You live for these moments.”
