Jimmy Lake is an American football coach who now serves as the defensive coordinator for the Atlanta Falcons of the National Football League. His football career began as a strong safety at Eastern Washington, where he played from 1995 to 1998. After concluding his collegiate football career, Lake worked as a graduate assistant at Eastern Washington in 1999.
Lake has extensive coaching experience in both the NFL and college football. In the 2023 NFL season, he was the Los Angeles Rams’ assistant head coach.

Atlanta Falcons’ New Defensive Coordinator
On Monday, the Atlanta Falcons announced the hire of Jimmy Lake, the Rams’ former assistant head coach, as their defensive coordinator. Lake is joined by the new offensive coordinator, Zac Robinson, who previously served as the Rams’ quarterbacks coach and passing game coordinator.
This is a reunion with the Falcons’ newly hired head coach, Raheem Morris, who departed the Rams last week. Morris has served as the Rams defensive coordinator since 2021. Before joining the Falcons, Lake was the head coach at the University of Washington.
He previously worked as an assistant for six seasons, including two seasons as defensive coordinator between 2018 and 2019. In addition to these moves, the Falcons announced the retention of special teams coordinator Marquise Williams on Monday.
