Phil Kane, a country singer-songwriter, will compete on American Idol episode 6 this Sunday, March 26, 2023, at 8 p.m. ET on ABC. The upcoming show will follow Phil and the remaining candidates as they compete in the final round of tryouts before the competition’s Hollywood Week round.
They will all be seen giving it their all in hopes of winning a golden or silver pass. Phil Kane is a country singer-songwriter from Pawhuska, Oklahoma and an American Idol contestant. He won Pawhuska’s Got Talent in 2019 and has competed in several local competitions. For his tryout, he will be seen singing his original composition Osage County, which will please the judges.
The popular ABC series has been running for over two decades and has become a hugely successful property. Known vocalists performed in front of the renowned judge triumvirate of pop diva Katy Perry, Oscar-winning singer/songwriter Lionel Richie, and country sensation Luke Bryan in Season 21. The general public has already chosen their champions and is rooting for them to win.
Phil Kane has been compared to “country Jackson Browne” by Luke Bryan, an American Idol judge
Prior to his appearance on American Idol, Phil Kane presented himself as an 18-year-old vocalist and composition student at Belmont University. When host Ryan Seacrest inquired about the contestant’s writing, he revealed that he composed songs about rural roads and women.
He took the stage for the audition and performed his original song Osage County while also playing the keyboard. As soon as he started performing, the judges exchanged grins, knowing they were watching a celebrity. Throughout the competitor’s act, the assessor’s gaze was fixed on him.
Even after his performance was over, the American Idol contestant continued to play the piano. Phil was greeted with standing ovations from all three judges until he returned to the main platform. Luke Bryan then referred to him as a “country Jackson Browne,” and the other judges agreed with him.
Katy Perry praised the contestant’s keyboard skills, saying:
“From the moment you began playing the piano…
Your piano selections gave me chills.” Then there’s your music story… Every statement is correct. It was so genuine that I could really relate to it. I’m not even from your small town, but I’d like to call you right now.”
The American Idol judge praised the contestant’s sincerity and assured him that his talent would propel him to the top of the competition. According to Lionel Richie, Phil checked all the boxes, including composition, analogies, melodies, and narrative.
Phil then revealed that he composed the music at the age of 16, which stunned the judges even more. Lionel called the performance “dead on the money,” adding:
“We know your persona and the sound of your voice. What you just did was incredible. We have a gifted illustrator on staff. Outstanding work!”
Katy also gave the American Idol contestant some sound advice. She advised Phil not to compete with other performers, but rather to show his true self, emphasizing who he is already.
Luke Bryan described last year’s winner, Noah Thompson, as the “simplest, most understated person in the competition.” He stated that the winner was chosen because people believed in him. The judge hoped Phil would understand and be inspired by this.
Phil was then approved by the American Idol judges, earning him a gilded pass to Hollywood Week. Season 21 of American Idol has produced a number of outstanding performers. Given that this is the final round of tryouts, candidates will give it their all to the evaluators in the hopes of receiving passes. Viewers must wait and see what happens next. Don’t forget to tune in to this week’s episode on ABC on Sunday, March 26, 2023, at 8 p.m. ET.
