Nonetheless, when their engagement was publicized in the Cleveland Jewish News in 2017, it all came to light. The pair married after a year of dating. The Cleveland Cavaliers’ President of Basketball Operations is Koby Altman. He is a former basketball coach and administrator from the United States.

Altman joined the Cavaliers in 2012 and worked in the front office for nearly four years before becoming the team’s director of pro personnel. Later in the 2016-2017 season, he was promoted to deputy general manager. In 2017, Koby was appointed general manager of the club. Following that, he was one of the league’s only four African-American general managers. Similarly, he became one of the few Jewish general managers.

Rachael Garson And Koby Altman’s Married Life

The basketball executive is married to Rachel Garson, as previously mentioned. Rachel Emily Garson was born in Ohio to Marci and Brent Garson. Garson grew up in Orange, Ohio, and went to Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland to study nursing. She was still working as a registered nurse at Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital when she announced her engagement to Koby Altman.

It is uncertain how the two met, but the media reported that Koby proposed to her for marriage following his 35th birthday in September 2017 after years of dating. Their daughter, Sophie Jane Altman, was born in December 2017 and was diagnosed with gastroschisis while still in her mother’s pregnancy.

She did, however, recover completely and is now in excellent health. Rachel and Koby married in front of their friends and family in Cleveland in August 2018. Their wedding was officiated by David Griffin, an American basketball executive.

Altman’s Family and Early Career

On September 16, 1982, in Brooklyn, New York, Koby Altman was born to his mother, Deborah Altman. He was her sole offspring. Deborah, his mother, worked as a social worker at Sheepshead Bay High School. Altman was raised by his mother as a single parent because his father was missing from his life as a child.

Even though his family was lower middle class, his mother never made him feel deprived of anything. According to Altman, Deborah was a kind, forceful, and independent lady who taught him all she knew, including basketball. Deborah, a University of North Carolina graduate, has been a fan of the New York Knicks since she was in college.

Koby was inspired by his mother’s love of games and began playing basketball at an early age. After graduation in 1999, Koby attended Middlebury College, where he played point guard for the basketball team. However, he never played professional basketball.

In 2007, he began his coaching career as an assistant coach at Amherst College. Before joining the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2012, Altman coached at Southern Illinois (2009-2010) and Columbia (2010-2012).
