Mary came under public scrutiny in September 2022 after a leaked memo revealed that the Malawian government had approved funding for her medical trip to South Africa.
According to reports, they provided a K312 million budget to pay for Mary Chilima and four support staff’s travel, lodging, food rations, and other costs.
Saulos Chilima is a devoted Roman Catholic, and he and his family are active members of the church.

Former vice president of Malawi, Saulos Chilima, was detained on suspicion of corruption. He allegedly accepted money in exchange for awarding government contracts, according to the nation’s anti-corruption agency.
Chilima is charged with accepting $280,000 “and other items” from Zuneth Sattar, a British businessman.
Dr. Chilima is currently being prosecuted on six corruption-related counts. He has appeared in court but has not yet responded to the allegations.
As he entered the court in Lilongwe, Malawi’s capital, his supporters and the Police appeared to fight.
Sattar, who was also detained in the UK in October 2021, is currently free on bail and maintains his innocence.
He is charged with using his connections with powerful government figures in Malawi to obtain supply contracts in violation of the law. According to reports, the agreements cover water cannons, armored personnel carriers, and food rations.
In a previous campaign, Dr. Chilima ran on a platform of fighting corruption and promising to eradicate poverty in one of the world’s most impoverished countries.
On June 22, 2022, when the Anti-Corruption Bureau first accused him, he was deprived of his authority. He has been named by the authority in the extensive corruption investigation along with 83 other Malawian officials.

At the Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital in Blantyre, Ntcheu, Malawi, Saulos Klaus Chilima was born. His parents are Ching’anga Village in Lilongwe’s Ching’anga Village and Mbilintengerenji Village in Ntcheu’s Elizabeth Frances Chilima.
The majority of Saulos’ formative years were spent in Blantyre, where his parents had jobs. Like most kids, he also spent his lengthy summer break from school visiting his maternal and paternal grandparents in their respective villages of Ntcheu and Lilongwe.
Before completing his secondary education at Marist Brothers Mtendere School Thiwi in the Dedza District, he attended HHIS and Dharap primary schools.

After several years of employment, he went back to his alma mater to complete a master’s program in knowledge management, earning his degree in 2006.
On August 10, 2015, the intelligent man earned his Ph.D. in knowledge management from the University of Bolton in the United Kingdom.
