Willie Simmons, the Head Coach of Florida A&M football, has decided to retire after a successful six-year tenure. Simmons has officially quit and will become the running backs coach at Duke University. Meanwhile, the Rattlers’ Cornerbacks Coach, James Colzie III, will take over as head coach.

Simmons’ extraordinary tenure in Florida’s capital city ended with a record of 45 wins and 13 losses. He expressed his gratitude to the FAMU administration. Simmons conveyed his heartfelt appreciation to former and current coaching and support staff, emphasizing the unique connections and valued memories he made throughout his career.

FAMU President Dr. Larry Robinson also praised Simmons’ influential leadership. He lauded Simmons for bringing the football team to tremendous heights, including the 2023 Celebration Bowl victory over Howard University.
