The Seattle “SuperSonics” selected Shawn Kemp, who was the youngest athlete ever selected, in 1989. He was acknowledged as a budding NBA talent by the start of his second season with the Sonics. In 1995 and 1996, Kemp’s success with Sonics was at its height.
He and Gary Payton took the team to the NBA Finals for the first time since 1979, setting a franchise mark with 64 victories. Shawn Kemp played for the Sonics up until 1997 when he was moved from the Sonics to the Cleveland Cavaliers as part of a three-team deal.
