What Caused Tim Klingender’s Death?

Famous Indigenous art dealer Tim Klingender was found dead in Sydney Harbour following what appears to have been a boating incident. The 59-year-old’s body was reportedly discovered on Thursday in Sydney’s east, close to Watsons Bay. According to Michael Reid, director of the Melbourne Art Gallery, Mr. Klingender’s passing is “an unimaginable and devastating loss for his family and indeed the Australian art world.”

On Thursday morning, the art dealer was out fishing on a boat when the catastrophe took place. In addition, the body was found after a small boat went down near some rocks off Watsons Bay. His wife, Skye McCardle, was in Nepal this week but was due to fly back to Sydney that night.

In addition, a tech entrepreneur called Andrew Findlay was fishing with Tim on the same boat when the catastrophe struck, but he vanished. At eight on Friday morning, three Marine Rescue NSW vessels joined the police in their search for Findlay. Additionally, Botany Port Hacking has offered to assist in the search.

Sea conditions around the search area are “fair; there is a little swell but visibility is fairly good for the Marine Rescue NSW search crews,” according to Marine Rescue NSW Inspector Steve Raymond. Klingender received recognition and admiration for creating a morally sound global market for Australian Indigenous art.
