Tyson Venegas, 17, is set to dazzle the judges on American Idol season 21, which premieres on ABC on Sunday, the 19th, and features Luke Bryan, Katy Perry, and Lionel Richie deciding who will advance to the Hollywood week round.
Tyson Venegas, a Filipino-Canadian singer from Vancouver, competed in season 2 of The Voice Teenagers Philippines at the age of 14. He was able to flip three judges’ chairs and qualify for the fight round during his rendition of the song, A Change is Gonna Come in 2020, but had to withdraw before the knockouts due to pandemic-related travel restrictions.

Tyson Venegas began singing at the age of three, singing lullabies to his mother in a “jazzy musical” style. He won the Canadian talent show, PNE Star Showdown, and the title of youngest prize winner at the age of seven. He also received $5000 in cash to pay for trumpet, piano, jazz, and vocal lessons, and he used his title to meet his hero artist, Michael Buble.
In 2016, he performed at Carnegie Hall and The Apollo in New York, and he sang “Superstition” on the TV show “Little Big Shots” in 2018. He also released two original songs in 2021, What If and Never Give Up. In an interview, Tyson stated that singing to him is about,
“making people happy and helping them forget their problems.”
Tyson has performed for a variety of charities and fundraisers, including the Variety Children’s Telethon and Canuck’s Place, as well as contests and music halls. He has nearly 4k Instagram followers, where he frequently posts covers of other artists’ songs. Tyson’s favorite vocalists include Stevie Wonder, Bruno Mars, Lizzo, and Michael Jackson.
American Idol Season 21
Ryan Seacrest will host season 21 of American Idol, or season 6 according to ABC. The season is produced by Eli Holzman, Aaron Saidman, Jennifer Mullin, and Megan Michaels Wolflick. Following the tryouts in Las Vegas, New Orleans, and Nashville, Luke Bryan, Katy Perry, and Lionel Richie will decide who will compete in Hollywood Week and other challenges.
ABC describes the series as follows:
“Many American contestants compete for the title and a record label contract in front of a panel of distinguished judges.”
Auditionees who receive a golden ticket will proceed to the next challenge, Hollywood Week, while Platinum ticket winners will be able to skip the first round of Hollywood Week.
After several clashes, the final 24 singers will be allowed to compete in live challenges against each other and collect public votes to win American Idol season 21. The producers have not revealed the season’s monetary award, but the previous season’s winner received $250,000.
