One of the competitors is Zachariah Smith, a musician, husband, and father from Amory, Mississippi who works at Bill’s Hamburgers. He started singing at the age of six and began playing the guitar at the age of eight. In an interview with Monroe Journal, he stated that his main passion is being a singer and entertainer.
He stated, ”
“I’m primarily concerned with my voice, as well as entertaining and performing. That, I believe, was the tipping point for my career.”
The singer considered competing on American Idol when he was 15 years old but realized he lacked the necessary skills. He auditioned for the upcoming season in Nashville in front of famous judges after a few years of waiting. In the interview, he also stated that now that he has adjusted to “adult life,” he plans to pursue his dreams. He continued, saying:
“I did it because I thought I had a good chance of making it and having the musical career I’d always wanted.”
Regarding the audition, he recalls that when he arrived, there were approximately 200 to 300 people in the holding area, all of whom were singing. This made him think about what a fantastic competition American Idol is and how much talent it showcases. He went on to say that, while watching so many people is an amazing experience, “self-doubt” creeps in. He continued, saying:
“After I stopped listening to the voices within my brain and got on the horse and began running with it, I started having joy in the process. That inspired me to give it my all at the Nashville audition.”
