Renowned Nigerian educator, public worker, and pharmacist Dora Nkem Akunyili OFR was raised.

Akyunyili was born in Makurdi, Nigeria, on December 14, 1954, and passed away in India on June 7, 2014.
She continued with her first education, graduating from the University of Nigeria with a degree in pharmacy.
She thereafter graduated from the University of London with a Ph.D. in pharmacology.
Dora started her illustrious academic career at the College of Pharmaceutical Sciences in Nsukka as a Senior Lecturer.
But a turning point came in 2001 when she was appointed DG of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC).
In this capacity, Akunyili spearheaded a robust drive to remove illicit drug producers and dealers from the Nigerian market by initiating “Operation Sweep.”
