A Texas A&M University student was discovered dead in Austin more than a week after he went missing. Tanner Hoang, 22, was last spotted near the institution’s main campus. Hoang’s family claimed to be in town for his graduation ceremony as well, but he vanished just as they were going to meet for lunch.

According to authorities, Tanner Hoang, 22, of Flower Mound, was discovered dead near the Pennybacker Bridge on Loop 360. The cause of death has not been disclosed, although detectives do not believe foul play was involved.
The Texas student’s family was in town for his graduation at the time of his disappearance and became concerned when he failed to show up for a meal before the ceremony. Tanner’s father said he texted him at 8:30 a.m. and received confirmation that Tanner viewed it before turning off his son’s phone.
Emily tracked his debit card activity and learned that he had filled up his car with gas at a gas station in Caldwell, Texas, about 12:08 p.m., but it was unclear where he went after that. Although the cause of death has not been disclosed, authorities do not believe foul play was involved.
When the Texas student did not show up for a pre-ceremony meal, his family, who had flown to town for his graduation, grew anxious. Tanner’s father said that he texted him at 8:30 a.m. and noticed that Tanner had received it before shutting off his son’s phone.
Tanner Hoang Case: An Update
As previously stated, the cause of death for Hoang is unclear. According to Amber Alert Network Brazos Valley, Hoang’s car was also found nearby. His wallet was found undamaged inside the vehicle. The Finding Tanner Hoang Facebook page provided official search updates on leads as well as information on Hoang’s current whereabouts and possible destination. By Saturday afternoon, about 13,300 people had joined the group.
According to the non-profit Amber Alert Network Brazos Valley (AANBV), Hoang was found dead near the Pennybacker Bridge on Loop 360 in Austin, not far from where the car was discovered. Hoang, 22, vanished on December 16th. His family was driving to College Station for his graduation that weekend, and they were planned to meet Hoang for lunch that afternoon.
Hoang’s automobile was last seen leaving a Shell gas station in Caldwell about 12:05 p.m., going westbound on Texas 21 toward Old Dime Box, Bastrop, and Austin. Later that day, security footage showed Hoang’s automobile heading to 1395 US Highway 290, west of Elgin.
The College Station Police Department provided no other details on Hoang’s death. Before social media rumors indicated Hoang’s death, volunteers and search teams were ordered to return home on Saturday.
