Greenbaum, George Segal’s high school girlfriend

Only a few people are fortunate enough to reunite with their first love, and Segal was one of them. He married his high school sweetheart after nearly fifty years.

Segal and Greenbaum first met at George School in Bucks, Pennsylvania, and fell in love during their adolescence.

Their time together, however, was brief because the couple pursued different courses following college. Segal desired to enhance his studies and enrolled in college before joining the military. Before pursuing a career in acting, he briefly served in the United States Army.

The Academy Award winner had a couple of setbacks before joining Columbia Pictures. In The Young Doctors, he made his debut. Greenbaum, meantime, worked as a waiter in a New York Cafe.

During their time apart, the two loved their separate lives and were busy raising their families. While Greenbaum married and had three children with her ex-husband, the veteran loved his marriage to his first wife, Freed.

George Segal has previously been married twice

The Goldbergs actor married producer and screenwriter Freed on November 19, 1937. Polly and Elizabeth, the couple’s two daughters, were born. They were married for more than 25 years before divorcing in 1963. (Freed died at the age of 77 from a fatal illness.)

On October 9, 1983, the actor married Linda Sue Rogoff for the second time after his divorce. When he lost Rogoff to a seriosevere illness in, his vows of “till death do us part” came true.

Rogoff’s death devastated Segal. He had reached his “lowest point” when he received an invitation to his 45th high school reunion. As a result, he turned down the offer, thereby jeopardizing any hope of rekindling his adolescent romance.

“I turned down the invitation because I was at the bottom of my roller-coaster life. I lost interest in everything once Linda died. I worked to support myself. Like life, acting became a chore. As a result, I couldn’t attend my high school reunion.”

Greenbaum’s Relationship Has Revived

The reunion party’s organizers wanted the actor to attend, so they approached Greenbaum to persuade him to join. They talked for hours after she contacted him and became acquainted. Furthermore, the veteran actor added that remembering their previous times with her helped him feel better.

It was very magical. It was similar to all the spiritual stuff I’d heard about, but when it happens in your life, it makes you believe in miracles. She brought back the joy in my life. After rekindling their childhood affection, they married on September 28, 1998.

George Segal: Died At 87

Segal will bid his ultimate farewell to his wife of 22 years, Sonia Schultz Greenbaum, on March 23, 2021. He died at the age of 87 as a consequence of complications after bypass surgery.

Greenbaum, his adored wife, relayed the news of his death to Sony Television the same day. “The family is heartbroken to report that George Segal passed away this morning as a consequence of complications from bypass surgery,” she said.

The Goldbergs’ producer, Adam F. Goldberg, also paid tribute to Segal on Twitter, stating that he was “a kid at heart with a brilliant spark.” He called him “the ideal person to play Pops.”
