Dathan and Miramar Skywalker, Rey’s parents, were modest garbage dealers who lived on the barren planet Jakku. Dathan, a descendant of the notorious Sith Lord Darth Sidious, has a Force ability that he passed on to his daughter Rey. When Ochi of Bestoon, a Sith assassin hired by Sidious, set out to find Rey, their idyllic existence was upended.
Dathan and Miramir chose to leave Rey on Jakku to keep her safe because they were concerned about the security of their family. According to their logic, keeping the family together would only endanger their daughter. Sadly, their plans to go back for Rey when things got better were dashed when Ochi brutally killed them and kept up his persistent quest after learning they didn’t know where Rey was. Rey finally learned what had occurred to her family despite her parents’ tragic deaths.
She discovered she was Darth Sidious’ grandchild in the third movie trilogy. Rey, though, resisted letting her family define her. Instead, she accepted her fate and hoped to follow in the footsteps of her heroes, Leia Organa and Luke Skywalker, by becoming a Jedi Knight. Her journey turned into one of development, resiliency, and rebellion against the limitations placed on her by her ancestors.
Who Is Rey Skywalker Anyway?
The main character of the Star Wars prequel trilogy is Rey Skywalker. She has a deep affinity to the Force because she was raised as a scavenger on the desert planet Jakku. Rey decides to embrace the Skywalker family tradition despite being the granddaughter of the evil Sith Lord Darth Sidious and sets out on a mission to become a Jedi Knight.
After the Battle of Endor, Rey’s parents, Dathan and Miramir, made the tough decision to leave her on the planet in order to shield her from her grandfather’s influence. Rey developed her scavenging abilities as she grew older, learning to survive in a dangerous environment while utilizing her mechanical and flying prowess.
She was completely unaware of Rey’s intense Force affinities. When Rey first encountered Finn, Poe Dameron, and the robot BB-8 in 2015, everything for her was forever altered. She joined their ranks, moved by their cause and the Resistance’s fight against the oppressive First Order, and quickly became a vital part of the group.
Rey contributed significantly to the Resistance’s successes over the First Order with her unrelenting dedication and growing Force proficiency, ultimately realizing her destiny as a Jedi Knight. Rey purposefully adopted the Skywalker last name to honour her heroes and companions, Luke Skywalker and Leia Organa, after the story came to a close. Continuing the legacy of the Skywalker name, she began to rebuild the Jedi Order and works to bring peace back to the galaxy.
Is Rey Skywalker ultimately put to death?
There isn’t any concrete canonical proof that Rey Skywalker passed away. Her destiny following the Skywalker tale is therefore still a mystery. Rey embarks on a trip in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker’s concluding scenes in an effort to revive the Jedi Order and bring peace to the galaxy.
Rey visits the Lars homestead on Tatooine, where Luke and Leia are interred, in a moving scene. She buries their lightsabers as she fixes her gaze on the two suns, recalling Luke in the well-known A New Hope moment. Luke and Leia’s Force ghosts materialize as she gets ready to leave, signaling their presence and direction.
Rey takes the Skywalker surname after learning she is descended from them. There hasn’t been a conclusive resolution in the canon that has been written, despite the expectation of certain fans that Rey will perish. Rey’s story ends with her setting off on a new adventure to protect the Skywalker family’s principles and carry on the Jedi bloodline.
