From 1990 until 2012, he presided over the Tata Group as chairman. From October 2016 to February 2017, he served as acting chairman. He continues to be in charge of its charitable trusts.
He received the Padma Bhushan, India’s third-highest civilian accolade, in 2000. In 2008, he received the Padma Vibhushan, India’s second-highest civilian honor. Ratan Tata is arguably the industrialist who is most admired and revered in India.
The Tata name is more well-known than that of any other corporate House in the country, even though he may not be as wealthy as Mukesh Ambani. Ratan Tata and the Tata legacy undoubtedly had a big impact on this.
Value of Ratan Tata
Ratan Tata, an Indian business magnate and former CEO of Tata Sons, is among the most well-known and esteemed individuals in the world. The 84-year-old businessman, known for his charitable and humanitarian work, has been in charge of the largest corporate empire in the country for more than 60 years and still has a significant impact on its enterprises.
Ratan Tata is ranked 433rd on the IIFL Wealth Hurun India Rich List 2021 with an estimated net worth of 35 billion dollars. Given his enormous impact, Ratan Tata ought to be among the wealthiest persons on the planet.
But that’s not the case. The reason for this is the substantial charitable work he does through the Tata Trusts.
Why Did Ratan Tata Never Get Married?
Tata is an unmarried man without any kids. In 2011, Ratan Tata claimed he had “come close to being married four times, but I pulled out each time out of fear or for another reason.”
It was a great time, he said, looking back on his time in the US. I enjoyed my job, had my car, and the great weather. In Los Angeles, I met my future husband and almost got married.
I had also decided to go back, even if it was just for a short while, as I had not seen my grandma in about seven years, and she wasn’t doing so well.
Then he decided to return to India. His ideal travel companion had been his ex-lover. He informed HOB that the 1962 Indo-China War’s aftermath led to her parent’s lack of support, which led to the breakdown of the relationship.
Ratan Tata finally guided the Tata Group to even higher heights than his predecessor, JRD, did. Because, well, life happened, Ratan Tata never got married.
Ratan Tata’s family
Ratan Tata was born on December 28, 1937, in Bombay, which is now Mumbai, during the British Raj. He is the son of Jamsetji Tata’s niece Sooni Tata and Naval Tata, a Surat native who was later adopted into the Tata family. Tata’s biological grandfather Hormusji Tata was a lineal ancestor of the Tatas.
Tata was raised and adopted by his grandmother, Ratanji Tata’s widow, Navajbai Tata when his parents separated in 1948 when he was 10 years old.
He was raised with Jimmy Tata, his younger brother, and Noel Tata, his half-brother from Naval Tata’s second marriage to Simone Tata. Ratan Tata is a native Gujarati speaker. He finished eighth-grade education at Mumbai’s Campion School.
Following that, he studied at the Cathedral and John Connon Schools in Mumbai, the Bishop Cotton School in Shimla, and the Riverdale Country School in New York City, where he graduated in 1955.
Following his high school graduation, Tata attended Cornell University where he majored in architecture and graduated in 1959. In 1975, he took part in Harvard Business School’s seven-week Advanced Management Plan; he later endowed the institution.
