The critically acclaimed Netflix comedy-drama The Baby-Sitters Club, based on the best-selling novels by Ann M. Martin, will be terminated after two seasons.
Despite numerous industry accolades and a Perfect Rotten Tomato score, Netflix frequently terminates successful programs after two seasons, as evidenced by the cancellation of the drama.
According to The Baby-Sitters Club creator Rachel Shukert, the streaming service prioritizes series whose admirers binge and complete new seasons upon release.
This makes it difficult for this series, which is not as well-known as Narcos and Money Heist, to prosper on a global scale.
Shukert attributed the cancellation of the program to Netflix’s skewed internal analytics, explaining how the release of Squid Game at the same time altered audience patterns and demonstrated the significance of numbers:
She remarked, ”
“Does it matter if this program has a decent audience but isn’t a massive hit, but is beloved by its fans? I’m not positive. We had the misfortune of releasing around the same time as Squid Game, which showed them the power of numbers. The respectable and successful numbers from the previous year were abruptly viewed in a new light. I don’t have access to much of this information, and neither do Netflix’s producers in general, so you’ll have to puzzle it together on your own.”
Netflix is known for renewing immensely successful series with a global audience, and in this numbers game, many treasures are typically overlooked.
What Is The Baby-Sitters Club’s Purpose?
The Baby-Sitters Club follows the adventures of a group of young “tween” girls, Kristy Thomas, Claudia Kishi, Stacey McGill, Dawn Schafer, Mary Anne Spier, and Karen Brewer, as they open their own babysitting business in Stoneybrook, Connecticut.
The series is based on Ann M. Martin’s popular book series of the same name. The series depicts a delicate period in a young girl’s life and tackles a variety of topics that will be pertinent and approachable to a young female audience.
Shukert proceeded:
“A significant number of female viewers are attracted to [the show] because it meets them where they are. It is not up to adults to inform children who they are. It’s not really about the boys, but it’s normal for them to develop affection as they mature.
There is something about stories for this age group that always feels more like mature reflection than what it is like to be this age. In The Baby-Sitters Club, we could make the females as intelligent, interesting, and mature as girls without focusing on how others perceive them. It all depends on how they perceive themselves.”
The first two seasons of The Baby-Sitters Club are available on Netflix, starring Sophie Grace, Malia Baker, Momona Tamada, Shay Rudolph, Kyndra Sanchez, Vivian Watson, and Anais Lee.
