Unfortunately, little is known about Sarah’s relationship with Andrew. The couple married on July 24, 1971, and received their first child, a girl named Imogen, on March 31, 1977.
Nicholas was born on 2 July 1979, followed in his father’s footsteps, and was nominated for a Grammy as a composer and record producer before his untimely demise. Andrew and Sarah divorced in 1983, following 12 years of marriage.
Sarah Brightman
Sarah Brightman, a British pop sensation 13 years his junior, auditioned for Cats in 1981, according to Andrew’s 2018 memoir Unmasked, as reported by People.
Andrew stated,
“A private meeting was arranged at my London apartment. I felt she had a great voice, but that was about it. Two years passed before I realized how talented a singer she was.’
Andrew and Sarah were both married at the time, but love soon grew between them as they became inseparable professionally once she became the lead actress in his blockbuster Phantom of the Opera.
According to Andrew, an affair began in 1983 and resulted in a proposal.
“Well, in reality, it wasn’t so much a proposal as a ‘we’re in love, we’re both married, what the f— do we do about it?'” he wrote in his memoir, as reported by People. “We decided that Sarah would meet my mother, I would meet her parents, and if we passed the test, I would tell my first Sarah the good news.”
Andrew Lloyd Webbe and Sarah would wed in 1984 before divorcing six years later. Together, they did not have any children.
Madeleine Gurdon
The conclusion of Andrew Lloyd Webbe and Sarah’s relationship was not without issues. While still married to his muse, the famed singer had begun a second romance.
“I met Madeleine Gurdon in 1989 through common friends during a tough period in my marriage to Sarah Brightman,” he wrote in Unmasked, according to People.
After learning of Sarah’s affair with the original Phantom keyboardist, despite my continued affection for her, things were never the same for me.
According to People, at the time of Andrew and Madeliene’s meeting, she was a “top-notch equestrian who rides in Princess Anne’s group.”
The story stated,
“The daughter of a retired brigadier and a convent, she has been a prominent three-day event rider for nearly a decade.”
The couple would go on to wed on February 9, 1991, and add Alastair, William, and Isabella to Andrew’s brood. Since then, they have been inseparable, with Madeleine by Andrew’s side when he overcame his harrowing prostate cancer battle in 2010.
