What Happened To Kala?
Kala gained notoriety in 2016 after security personnel freed her from a cargo container on the grounds of her kidnapper. At the time, she was dating Charles David Carver, who had just gone through a divorce. After a few months, they decided to live together, and to take care of their financial needs, Kala accepted a cleaning position at Todd Kohlhepp’s home.
In addition to owning 95 acres of land in rural South Carolina, Todd worked as a real estate agent. Similarly, on August 31, 2016, Todd engaged Kala and Charles to perform landscaping work on his farm. He also instructed them to wait outside until they got to the office.
A short while later, Todd appeared, carrying a gun. Todd immediately killed Charles by shooting him three times in the chest. After Kala’s boyfriend was slain, Todd chained her neck, feet, and wrists and kept her inside a metal shipping container inside his complex. Kala also claims that Todd murdered Charles to have her all to himself.
She was also compelled to serve her kidnapper sexually however he pleased every day between 1 and 3 p.m. during the tense time she spent in the container after he removed the chains that chained her. He claimed she was only alive to meet his desires and held a revolver at her as all of this was happening.
From an employer-employee union to an abusive one, Brown and Todd’s relationship deteriorated. She also disclosed to Dr. Phil that Todd had hoped she would experience Stockholm syndrome, a psychological condition in which abuse victims fall in love or form bonds with their abusers.
How much time had Kala Brown been missing?
Kala was detained by Kohlhepp for more than two months. Charles’ mother filed a missing person report after seeing Charles’ unusual lack of communication. Brown’s mother and friend also tried to get in touch with her but were unsuccessful.
Her mother informed the police that she had unusually found her daughter’s dog in their apartment without food or water. Additionally, she reported Kala missing at the beginning of September. Soon after, Charles’s pals started noticing odd entries on his Facebook page that said he and Kala were married and had bought a house.
Then the investigation got underway, and Todd’s house’s IP address was found. Additionally, on November 3, 2016, local authorities entered the building. They found Kala shackled by her attacker when they arrived after hearing distant noises coming from the container. Todd is currently incarcerated for seven consecutive life terms.

In 2018, the court gave Kala a settlement of $6.3 million for his medical bills, suffering, mental and emotional suffering, and diminished quality of life. The little girl fearlessly approached him despite his warnings. He was held responsible for kidnapping as well. Todd was sentenced to 15 years in jail and made to register as a sex offender.
This character moved to South Carolina after being published in 2001. He admitted to six additional killings in return for the opportunity to see his mother. He even revealed the location of the victims’ shootings, which had previously been kept a secret from the public.
