His band Dr. Feelgood’s official Twitter page shared the sad news as they paid tribute to the accomplished actor and musician. In the statement, it was said, “This is the announcement we never wanted to make, and we do so with a hefty heart.”
The band also expressed gratitude to the public for respecting the family’s privacy during this trying period.
After a tumor in his stomach was discovered, Wilko was first told he had only ten months to live and was suffering from fatal pancreatic cancer.
Nevertheless, he made the decision to forgo treatment in order to concentrate on his singing career. He collaborated with Roger Daltrey of the Who to create the album Going Back Home, which was released the following year.
Later in 2014, on the advice of a fan named Chalie Chan, Wilko sought a second opinion. Additional examinations revealed that the musician had a neuroendocrine tumor, an uncommon but less dangerous kind of cancer.
