Will Smith Claims That He Slapped Chris Rock At The Oscars

Will Smith

Will Smith has admitted that he slapped comedian Chris Rock on the Oscars stage in March out of “bottled” wrath. For the first time since the incident, which he called “a dreadful night,” the actor has been interviewed.

On The Daily Show with Trevor Noah, he claimed the following: “You see, I was experiencing something that evening.

Not that my behavior is justified in any way by it. There were “many intricacies and complexity to it,” Smith continued, but he also said: “I just – I lost it.”

At the Hollywood awards show, Smith stormed the stage after Rock made a joke about his wife Jada’s shaved head. She suffers from alopecia, which causes hair loss.

“Hurt people, hurt people,”

He said to Noah, “I understand how shocking that was for people. “I had left. That wrath has been suppressed for a very long time.”

He recalled his nine-year-old nephew’s response that evening and claimed he recognized the hurt he had caused.

Smith said,

“He’s the nicest little baby.” “He had stayed up late to visit his Uncle Will when we got home, and now we’re sitting in my kitchen with him on my lap holding the Oscar and asking his Uncle Will, “Why did you hit that man?”

He was publicly questioned about the attack for the first time during the interview on the late-night US TV talk program.

Smith assured Noah that he recognized the commonly cited tenet that “hurt people hurt people.”

When speaking about the events leading up to his Oscars attack, the actor said: “There were numerous things. It was the young child who saw his father physically abuse his mother, you know? All of that just came to the surface at that time. I don’t want to be that person.”

Smith has already spoken out about growing up in a violent household. His father hitting his mother is described in graphic detail at the start of his memoirs; the episode, according to him, characterized his youth and ultimately shaped his career.

“I’m a fallible human,”

I think what I would say is that you just never know what somebody’s going through, he added while explaining the circumstances around the slap, declining to elaborate.

He continued, speaking to the studio audience: “You’re sitting next to strangers in the audience right now, and someone’s mother passed away last week. You realize? Someone’s kid is ill. A person recently lost their job. Someone just learned that their spouse had an affair.

“There are all these things, and you simply have no idea how people are feeling. Additionally, I was experiencing something that evening.”

He stated that he “had to forgive myself for being human” in the wake of the Oscars.

“No one detests the fact that I’m human more than I do, I assure you. Superman has always been my dream. I’ve always wanted to intervene and save the helpless.

And I had to come to terms with the fact that I’m an imperfect human and that I still had the chance to go out into the world and make a contribution that will fill my heart and, maybe, benefit others.

The 54-year-old has resigned from the Academy, which oversees the celebration, and has been barred from the Oscars for 10 years.

He responded to inquiries concerning the Academy Awards that claimed to have been submitted by fans in a YouTube video that was published in July. Smith has only previously made written statements about the altercation.

He made an appearance on The Daily Show on Monday to promote his next movie, Emancipation, which will be released the following week and is now nominated for an Oscar the following year.

After receiving this year’s best actor Oscar for King Richard, Smith said he was “killing me dead” about the possibility that his new movie might be “tainted” during the upcoming awards season.

He said, “These top artists in the world have produced some of their best work to date.” “I hope that their work will be respected and not tarnished because of a terrible choice I made,” the author wrote.
