YNW Melly Sentenced To Years In Prison: When Will He Be Released?

YNW Melly was detained in February 2019 for the double murder of two other rappers from the “YNW” collective.

On October 26, 2018, the deaths of YNW Sakchaser/ Anthony Williams, 21, and YNW Juvy/ Chris Thomas, 20, took place in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

In prison for more than three years while waiting for his friend’s murder trial. He is charged with shooting his friends in a moving vehicle and tricking the police into believing they were killed in a drive-by.

He was accused of two charges of premeditated first-degree murder and, if found guilty, would face life in jail without the chance of release.

Authorities think Melly planned the action with fellow YNW rapper Cortlen Henry (YNW Bortlen). The latter is said to have taken the victims to the hospital, where they passed away from their injuries.

As things stand, it is unlikely that he will ever be released from prison if found guilty.

Will YNW Melly Face Death Penalty?

The case has been an emotional rollercoaster since YNW Melly entered a not-guilty plea to the double-murder allegations in March 2019.

He was first believed to be eligible for the death penalty, but Judge Andrew Siegel overturned the ruling in July.

On November 9, however, the possibility of the severest penalty was reintroduced in the event that YNW Melly was found guilty during the trial.

After making the case that the prosecution took too long to issue a formal notice of the same, Melly’s defense team persuaded Judge Siegel to abstain from imposing the death penalty.

According to a November 10 Billboard article, the State did, however, successfully contend in appeals court that they did offer the death sentence as an alternative when Melly was first detained in February 2019.

The Florida Supreme Court will ultimately decide whether Melly will be executed.

The rapper has a history of running into legal issues. He was detained in late 2015 for shooting at a gathering of youngsters close to Vero Beach High School.

After being found guilty on two counts of aggravated assault, aggravated violence, and using a handgun in public, he was sentenced to several months in prison.

Additionally, YNW Melly was detained for marijuana possession, breaking the terms of her probation, and having a weapon or ammunition in her possession while a felon.
