Sanovia is not his only spouse; in 1997, he was previously married. Salaam and his ex-wife have a total of three children. The marriage was also short-lived because of persistent disputes and marital issues.

Case Update for Yusef Salam

Yusef Salaam, who was just 15 years old, had to go through a trying period in his life. When Trisha Meili, then age 28, was raped and assaulted in 1989, Yusef and four other teenagers were held responsible.

The five juvenile defendants at the time were Yusef, 15, Antron McCray, 14, Raymond Santana, 14, Kevin Richardson, 16, and Korey Wise.

Yusef Salaam was imprisoned for seven years before being released, and even then, he was sent out on parole rather than being declared innocent.

Until their convictions were overturned in 2002 as a result of Korey Wise meeting the genuine rapist in jail and persuading him to come forward, the Central Park Five were known as the Exonerated Five.

The case and Salaam’s time in jail are covered in Better, Not Bitter, but Salaam insists that the narrative he wants to convey most is about the foundation his family and faith created for him, enabling him to not only bear this horrible injustice but also to develop in the middle of it.

Salaam’s faith was another constant source of influence. As soon as he is captured, he discovers signs of a supernatural presence.
