Kendrick began his college football career as a redshirt freshman. In his redshirt season, he started all 12 games at left guard. He transitioned from defensive tackle to offensive lineman. In 2018, he made his career debut against Kent State in the season opener. In the Big Ten season of 2020, Kendrick started three games as a center and five games as a guard. PFF placed him No. 6 among offensive guards in the country and No. 2 in the Power-5 (77.1). He was the first offensive player and the first offensive lineman in Illinois history to be named First Team All-Big Ten. The Pittsburgh Steelers recently drafted him.

On August 3, 2020, Kendrick coordinated a Black Lives Matter march for Illini student-athletes.
