Lauren was born in 1982 in Chicago, Illinois,  She spent her childhood in Chicago with her parents, Dan and Karen Jiggetts – her father worked as a host and analyst for Comcast Sports Net Chicago, so one could say Lauren inherited her love of broadcasting from her father – he was also very athletic, having played offensive lineman for the Chicago Bears football club from 1976 to 1982.

She entered at Harvard University after graduating from Stevenson High School in Lincolnshire and received her magna cum laude four years later.

Lauren was one of the best students in her class, so she had no trouble finding a nice job as soon as she graduated — she started working for Channel One News in Los Angeles as a reporter and anchor. The channel is one of the most popular and has received multiple honors, so it’s safe to assume that her first job was also one of the best she’s ever had.

Lauren was working for the United Nations at the same time, covering breaking national news for them – she was reporting from the Super Bowl, Hurricane Isabel’s damage, and NASA’s Jet Propulsion Lab.

She then made the huge move from Channel One and the UN to MTV Studios, where she worked as part of the anti-discrimination campaign, but she didn’t remain long because she soon began working for NBC 5 Chicago as their general assignment reporter, while also anchoring and reporting for WLVI TV station. Lauren received one of the most coveted prizes for her work with NBC 5: an Emmy Award. She also has multiple local Emmy Awards and was honored with the Irv Kupcinet Media Award at the 41st Annual Ed Kelly Foundation Gala in 2015.

Jiggetts worked for NBC 5 for over ten years before joining the WGN TV team; she left NBC 5 with these words: ‘This was a difficult decision for me to make, but I believe it is the correct one.’ I’ve worked at WMAQ for ten years and have thoroughly loved my time there. My life has changed tremendously since the day I joined WMAQ, and I believe that leaving is the best move for me both emotionally and professionally.’ She is currently employed with WGN TV as the anchor of their Morning News.
