Kala Brown to two months of torture and sexual assault Todd Kohlhepp. A convicted murderer, subjected Late in August, Kala and her ex-boyfriend traveled to Todd’s remote South Carolina home to perform some maintenance. This is when her nightmare began. Todd promptly murdered Charles and used Kala as a sexual slave for two months.
After visiting Todd’s property in search of Kala and Charles, authorities were able to rescue Brown. To let authorities know where she was, Brown pounded on the walls of the steel shipping container that had served as her prison for the last two months.
Where Is Kala Brown Now?
After obtaining $6.3 million in damages from Todd’s estate, Kala settled in South Carolina.
Todd had been Kala’s friend for five years before her kidnapping. The real estate agent, who offered Brown assignments to help her make additional money, had been introduced to her by an ex-boyfriend.

Kala’s excursion to Todd’s property was interpreted by Charles and Kala as being related to one of her regular tasks. After Todd shot Charles three times in the chest, Kala found herself unable to speak or even move. She later revealed to Dr. Phil,
“He [Todd] stated it was easier to control someone if you kidnapped someone they loved.”
The following two months were spent with Kala shackled to a metal shipping container’s sidewalls. Todd would tie her up and force her to perform sex acts on him in the early afternoon. She was only permitted one meal a day and one bathroom break.
Todd posted updates to Charles’ Facebook page claiming that Charles and Kala were married, had purchased a home, and were expecting a kid to confuse the authorities. He merely managed to increase skepticism that everything was not right.
Charles and Kala were scheduled to work on Todd’s property on August 31, it was later learned by police. On Todd’s land, they discovered Kala, Charles’s car, the grave he was buried in, and several firearms.
Todd thought that Kala would fall in love with her captor and consent to live with him, Kala said to Dr. Phil. Authorities, however, refute Kala’s claim because they discovered a previously-dug pit near Charles’ burial. They think Todd planned to kill Kala.
Todd would confess to killing Charles and six other people. Charles accepted a plea bargain that handed him seven consecutive life terms instead of the death penalty. Todd claims there are further victims, but he won’t say who they are.
A judge ordered Todd’s estate to pay Kala $6.3 million in damages. Together with her boyfriend and their daughter, she made Anderson, South Carolina, her home. While Brown’s ex-boyfriend was detained for domestic violence, her ex-fiancee committed suicide.
Brown pursued a relationship with Adam Mayson after she was saved. Before Adam died from a self-inflicted chest stab wound, the couple got engaged. Mayson was given life-saving treatment, but he suffered a heart collapse and died. Kala stated Adam’s passing, saying:
“I am devastated by my fiancé’s passing today. A genuine gift from God, Adam. He helped me through a trying moment by bringing me immense joy and peace. My excitement and hope for the future were rekindled as we built a life together. Please join me in asking God to grant Adam’s family peace as they mourn this awful loss with us both.
James Devon Moore and Brown began dating later in the year. Brown and Moore were detained for domestic violence in July 2019. David Wyatt, Brown’s attorney, stated:
“She’s certainly having a terrible time.”
According to Jenny Dial, Kala’s spokeswoman, she was not taking her medication at the time of the incident.
Kala was not taking her medication, and she got into a fight with a friend that was later resolved, according to Jenny.
Kala has stayed out of the news since 2019, thus there aren’t many specifics regarding her life right now. The identities of her daughter and present partner are also unknown.
