Jamie Roy, a Scottish DJ who passed away earlier this year, is being honored in his hometown. On Saturday, Lee Clark, his older brother, will host it where they first began hosting Funktion parties together 13 years ago.
Before ending them, Lee wants to spend two more evenings at the Dumfries nightclub The Venue.
He expressed the wish that any previous attendees will show up to honor his brother.
The DJ, who passed away in September at the age of 33, was remembered by colleagues in the business as a “unique person” and an “amazing human.”
The area where their musical careers began is where his older brother said he wanted to celebrate his life.
I’ve been a DJ for a very long time, perhaps 30 years, and Jamie used to always come in whether I was practicing or DJing at home if I had a gig at the weekend or anything, Lee remarked.
“Jamie picked up on the situation quickly and became interested in it. “He used to constantly bother me with requests for records.
Jamie Roy had his equipment, but I provided recordings for him to practice on and taught him how to DJ; he rapidly picked up the rest of the skills on his own.
Jamie would be taken a long way from his house.
He initially spent time with me, but soon left and pursued other interests, according to Lee.
“I’m not precisely sure when he moved to Ibiza, but I believe it was approximately ten years ago when he first began to produce music.
“He couldn’t stay here; he would never advance.”
Lee claimed that his sibling established himself quickly.
He flew to Ibiza, and things picked up speed after that, he said,
“You have to move on and that’s exactly what he did.”
“Everyone adored Jamie since he was the most likable person ever, thus it was quite simple for him to advance swiftly.
He was a fantastic producer and DJ in addition to being a great brother.
Lee claimed that two months after the passing of his younger brother, he was still processing it.
“He’s been so busy, he’s been all over the world DJ-ing,” he added. “I haven’t seen him as often as I normally would over the previous couple of years.”
“When he has come home, it has only been for a few days before he left again.
Unfortunately, that’s not going to be the case. “Sometimes I just assume he’s still abroad and we’re just waiting on him to return home for a weekend to see his family and stuff.”
The direction of Jamie’s career was rapidly ascending when he passed away.
He was just about to make it big, big time, according to Lee.
“He’s collaborating with one of the biggest producers in the world on a song that will be released very soon.
“It’s a fantastic song, and I’d be extremely astonished if it didn’t reach the top 10. It’s a huge song.”
Before calling it a day, Lee will host two more Funktion events: one on Saturday and one on Boxing Day.
He remarked, “I and Jamie launched this club night in 2009; I never thought that I would still be doing it every month 13 years later.
“I’ve just decided that I’m not going to carry it on without Jamie,” she said.
But he’ll have a chance to honor his brother’s life this weekend.
To get to the music that we still play today, Lee remarked, “We’re going to start off playing the music that we started at the club in 2009.”
“Please attend if you were there when we started in 2009 but stopped going out to clubs, if you arrived in the middle of the voyage, or if you were new to coming to the club night.”
He expressed optimism that the final activities will embody the club evenings he and his brother introduced to the community.
Everyone will have many memories rekindled by the music, he predicted.
Some individuals have messaged me to say that seeing you two perform at The Venue was one of the highlights of their trip to Dumfries.
To give his brother a proper send-off, Lee is attempting to capture that spirit.
