Since the boy band’s return to K-pop music after severing ties with their former management JYP Entertainment (JYPE) in 2021, GOT7 has been making headlines.

In 2022, the guys released brand-new songs in the form of a mini-album bearing their name. Group leader Jay B recently opened out in an interview with Sudsapda Magazine on the procedure for obtaining the group’s trademark rights. As said by Jay B:

GOT7 became the first K-pop boy group to leave one of the biggest record labels in the business in May 2022 and transition into a fully independent K-pop boy group.

The transfer of the organization’s ownership was carried out in large part thanks to group leader Jay B. His dedication and commitment to his group earned him well-deserved praise from millions of fans given the difficulty in obtaining trademark rights.

Jay B of GOT7 recently discussed the challenges he faced with Sudsapda magazine, stating that obtaining the group’s unit rights proved to be the most difficult endeavor.

The trademark rights for the units present a challenge. For the members that dwell in Korea, it wasn’t challenging. We do, however, have a number of members that reside outside of Korea.

Members of the GOT7 who lived abroad or frequently traveled there, such as Mark Tuan, BamBam, and Jackson Wang, were reportedly compelled to sign for the procedure. He had to wait for them to arrive in Korea as a result.

He declared:

“So I tried to figure out how to get their autographs, but in the end I had to wait for them to visit Korea and then get their signature when they got there. That required a little more time.

Then Jay B opened up about Jung Wook, CEO of JYP Entertainment (JYPE). Jay B claims that Jung Wook and the company’s founder J.Y. Park did not hesitate to transfer the members’ rights to the group when the group resurfaced as a self-owned group in May 2022.

“No matter how much I consider it, the willingness of JYP CEO Jung Wook to give up the trademark rights was a crucial aspect. I just slowly started to prepare the paperwork after that. Since it had been considerably delayed, I must admit that I felt terrible for CEO Jung Wook.

After expressing his regret to the CEO of JYPE for the signing process’s delay, Jay B thanked the organization for their positive response to the entire process. He claimed that his attorney had forewarned him that obtaining trademark rights was not always as simple as this.

At his press conference upon his comeback in May 2022, Jay B made sure to thank Jung Wook and J.Y. Park for facilitating the trademark process when asked about it.

The GOT7 vocalist has since transferred the band’s trademark rights, which also cover rights to light sticks, record productions, live performances, fan signs, meet-and-greets, and more, to his own business, 528Hz. The ownership of the group’s unit names, which Jay B shares with his bandmates, has also been revealed.
