The ending of Dave Bautista’s tenure as Drax in Guardians of the Galaxy has left him feeling “relieved,” he claims. Although the former professional wrestler is “grateful” to have portrayed the part in the well-known Marvel movies, he claims he doesn’t want it to be his “legacy.”
The third and presumably final volume of the series will be released in theaters in May. It wasn’t entirely enjoyable. In an interview with GQ Magazine, he said that performing the role was challenging.
Alongside Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Bradley Cooper, and Vin Diesel, Bautista plays the annoying and frequently socially awkward character in the film.
He claimed that going through the arduous make-up process to become the repentant interplanetary criminal “was beating me down.”
And I’m not sure whether I want Drax to be my legacy because it’s a ridiculous performance and I want to do more dramatic work.
Before becoming an actor, Dave had a prosperous career in World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), where he rose to stardom as Batista.
The Rock, possibly the most successful wrestler who later became an actor, was another subject of discussion.
He claimed that copying The Rock was never his plan, but he did “simply want to be… a respected actor.”
“I worry about some things. However, I can make myself do uncomfortable things because I know that if I don’t, I won’t get anywhere.
He told the US publication,
“I may wince after the fact, but I’m not going to let that fear hold me back.”
Dave is not the only one who has a more somber perspective on a role that gave him and his fans so much.
After that,
In Twilight, Robert Pattinson’s career-launching performance as the vampire Edward Cullen garnered a great deal of praise.
Though he acknowledged that it was “strange” to be a part of it while standing for something you don’t particularly like.
Daniel Craig, who plays James Bond, stated in an interview following the 2015 release of Spectre that he intended to “move on” and would only do another 007 “for the money.”
And he succeeded. Or at least that’s what the US entertainment magazine Variety said, which stated that he received $25 million for his final Bond film, No Time to Die.
Hannah Montana, played by Miley Cyrus, claimed she did not have “the best of both worlds.”
That was repeatedly pounded into my head, “No one cares about you until you’re Hannah Montana.”
According to freelance film critic Katie Smith-Wong, performers frequently have a distinct perspective on their prior performances.
According to her, “they didn’t agree with” some aspects of their character’s evolution, creative disagreements, or a desire to escape being typecast.
Katie responds, “I think Dave Bautista wants to break the mold.
The “whole story, the true story” surrounding his remarks regarding Drax is difficult to ascertain, but it “may be a variety of things,” according to Katie.
According to her, one reason could be that they “don’t have the kind of material that would help establish his character as more than simply comic relief, which is kind of what Drax is.”
“Because his intriguing past was hinted at in the first Guardian movie. Thus, that was never thoroughly investigated.
She says that Bautista might use this as “a window” to “explore other opportunities.”
And his relief may come from being able to accomplish it without “feeling beholden to Marvel to stay in that role,” as Katie puts it.
In the words of Katie, who is a fellow Marvel fan, the series is “one that you grow up with and become emotionally invested in.”
However, she claims that Drax is distinct from other well-known figures.
Drax is one of those characters that fans may appreciate, but who doesn’t require as much emotional involvement as Captain America or Iron Man.
She also thinks the remarks will “create interest” in the movie and Drax’s future before it is released.
How his departure will impact the Guardians and upcoming movies will be intriguing.
Was this a missed opportunity to elevate his history, or will the comic relief shift to other characters?
The MCU has shown us that things may happen in the most unexpected ways, she continues.
