On November 8, 2022, famed Dutch musician Pierre Kartner passed away at the age of 87. A spokesperson for the family confirmed the information and stated that Kartner was buried on November 11.

After playing Vader Abraham on stage, Kartner gained fame. He wrote 1600 songs, but his 1977 hit “Smurf Song” is what made him most famous. He also made a name for himself as one of the most popular musicians in Dutch Top 40 history.
When he won a local competition when he was eight years old, Pierre Kartner, who was born on April 11, 1935, began his musical career. Kartner founded the band Duo X with Annie de Reuver while working as a promoter and producer for the Dureco record label.
The music for the opening and closing credits of the animated versions of the TV series Moomin and Ik ben verliefd was written by him while he was a member of the band Corry & de Rekels (Shalalie).
Father Abraham has seven sons is a Dutch carnival song that Pierre wrote in 1971. Father Abraham, his alter persona, was born as a result (Vader Abraham, in Dutch). In the Netherlands, his duet with Wilma Landkroon, “Would it be dreadful, sweet grandfather?” peaked at number one on the charts. His second biggest hit, The Little Café by the Harbor, was recorded in 1975.
The Smurf Song, a single, was created when Kartner accepted an invitation to write a promotional song for The Smurfs in May 1977. In 2005, Pierre collaborated with the dance group Dynamite to create the song.
In response to the 1973 oil crisis, Pierre and politician Hendrik Koekoek produced a duet called den Uyl is in the oil. He wrote a book about the 1975 carnival season. What shall we do with these Arabs?
