Edebiri was born in Boston on October 3, 1995, to Barbadian and Nigerian parents. Her interest in comedy began in eighth-grade theater class, after which she joined the Boston Latin School improv group.

She performed a stand-up act on Comedy Central’s Up Next and appeared in the web series Ayo and Rachel Are Single, which she co-wrote and co-starred in with her friend and fellow comedienne Rachel Sennott. Edebiri went on to write for NBC’s Sunnyside and The Rundown with Robin Thede during their respective seasons.

She began writing for the animated show Big Mouth but quickly transitioned to voicing Missy after Jenny Slate stepped down. Dickinson appeared as a writer and actor in Apple TV+’s second season.

She even appeared in the film adaptation of Jennifer E. Smith’s YA novel Hello, Goodbye, and Everything in Between. Ayo Edebiri rose to prominence in Hulu’s masterpiece, The Bear, as Sydney Adamu. For her role as a determined young sous chef, she was nominated for Gotham Awards, Critics’ Choice Awards, and Independent Spirit Awards.

She is currently working on Mulligan, a Netflix animated series, and voicing the lead role in We Lost Our Human. Ayo Edebiri even co-hosts a podcast with Olivia Craighead called Iconography, which features conversations with guests about idols who have influenced their lives.

What is Abbott Elementary’s backstory?

Quinta Brunson stars in the sitcom, which follows the lives of the teachers and staff at Abbott Elementary, a fictitious primarily Black school in Philadelphia.

According to the official synopsis of the show,

“In this workplace comedy, a group of dedicated, passionate teachers—and a slightly tone-deaf principal—are thrown together in a Philadelphia public school, where they are motivated to help their children succeed in life despite the odds stacked against them.”

It continues,

“Despite being outnumbered and underpaid, these incredible public servants enjoy what they do — even if they don’t agree with the school district’s less-than-stellar approach to education.”

Randall Einhorn, Justin Halpern, Patrick Schumacker, and Quinta Brunson serve as executive producers for the show.
