The twelfth season of Fox’s MasterChef, which debuts on May 25, will feature Joe Bastianich as a judge and mentor for a fresh group of competitors.

The chef’s work as a judge on the reality competition shows MasterChef, MasterChef Italia, and MasterChef Junior has gained him the most notoriety. A new batch of candidates who are passionate about cooking will be coached by award-winning chefs Gordon Ramsay and Aarón Sánchez in addition to Bastianich in the program’s 12th season.

It’s estimated that Joe Bastianich is worth $15 million. The seasoned restaurateur owns and operates several eateries, including Becco and the Italian restaurant Babbo Ristorante e Enoteca. Every year, one of his restaurants, simply titled Batali, gives him about $1 million.
His restaurant empire includes seven in New York, six in Italy, two each in Singapore and Hong Kong, one in Chicago, and one in Boston. The chef has also authored several best-selling books, including Vino Italiano, Grandi Vine, and Restaurant Man, according to the New York Times.

Joe Bastianich was born to working parents in Astoria, Queens, New York, in September 1968. They were eager to open their restaurants, which encouraged the opening of additional Italian restaurants.
In truth, Joe attended Fordham Preparatory School and then worked in his parent’s Felidia restaurant in Manhattan before enrolling in college. Later, he studied political science and philosophy while attending Boston College.
After graduating, Joe started working as a trader on Wall Street, but he soon moved into the food industry. This inspired him to travel to Italy in 1993, where he established his first Becco restaurant. Then he opened Babbo Ristorante e Enoteca, which was an immediate hit. It was the first Italian restaurant to receive three stars from The New York Times in forty years.
Following this achievement, he went on to build seven additional eateries in New York, including Eataly, Lupa, Esc Escape, Casa Mono, Bar Jamon, and Otto. The new show’s 12th season will debut on May 25 at 8 p.m. ET.
