Joseph A. Buttafuoco, who was born on March 11, 1956, rose to renown after a life-altering experience in 1992. Amy Fisher, Joey’s then-17-year-old lover, confronted his wife Mary Jo Buttafuoco with a loaded.25 caliber semiautomatic handgun in May 1992.
Amy walked up to Mary and shot her in the face. His wife Mary was left partially paraplegic and partially deaf in one ear.
The investigation into the incident produced a number of contradicting comments, which received widespread coverage in both tabloids and mainstream media.
Amy’s conviction for assault revealed Joey’s relationship with Amy. Amy accused Joey of instigating her to murder Mary, Joey’s wife, and even provided her with a weapon.
After additional information on Joey’s offenses surfaced, he was charged with 19 counts of statutory rape, endangering the welfare of a minor, and sodomy. He initially pleaded not guilty but afterward admitted to having a sexual relationship with Amy despite her being only 16 years old.
The 62-year-old was given a six-month jail sentence and released after serving four months. Mary Jo filed for divorce on 3 February 2003 after they traveled to California following Joey’s release from prison and separation from his family, including his son and daughter.

Joey’s 2005 marriage to Evanka marked the beginning of his new life. He met his wife when she worked for his company as a repo girl. She stated that she was initially afraid to approach him, but after hearing his story, she remained with him.
