Mr. Carter stated on Twitter that he expects to be “completely exonerated.”

It is expected that he will be selected in the top five in the NFL Draft next month.

Getting selected essentially ensures that footballers will become millionaires immediately.

Investigators said that Mr. Carter, a Georgia Bulldogs defensive tackle, was driving a Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk during a high-speed race that resulted in the deaths of Chandler LeCroy, 24, the team’s recruiting analyst, and Devin Willock, 20, Mr. Carter’s teammate.

Ms. LeCroy was traveling in excess of 100 mph (160 km/h) in a Ford Expedition. According to toxicology findings, her blood alcohol percentage was more than double the legal limit.

Two additional members of the Georgia football team were hurt in the collision, which authorities initially believed included only one vehicle.

The Athens-Clarke County Police Department said in a statement,

“The evidence indicated that both vehicles changed lanes, drove in the center turn lane, drove in opposite directions of traffic, overtook other motorists, and drove at high rates of speed in an apparent attempt to outdistance each other.”

Mr. Carter was notified of the arrest warrant on Wednesday while attending the NFL scouting combine in Indianapolis, Indiana, an annual event that serves as an official audition for the greatest college football players.

It precedes the NFL Draft when young football players seek to realize their goals and where contracts worth tens of millions of dollars are at stake.

Mr. Carter announced through Twitter that he will travel to Athens, Georgia, to face misdemeanor charges and “see that the whole and exact truth is given.”

He asserted that media coverage of the crash contained “inaccurate information” without providing specifics.

The head football coach of the University of Georgia, Kirby Smart, stated,

“The allegations filed today are extremely troubling, especially as our community is still coping with the tragic loss of two cherished members.”

The collision occurred six days after Georgia won its second consecutive college football national championship and hours after a victory parade.
