According to Deadline, who confirmed the news with his niece Noreen Austin, the tragic news of his passing was reported on March 9, 2023. In Los Angeles, California, the deceased apparently died of “heart illness” at the age of 89.
These are five facts about the New Jersey native, who was cleared of the murder of his second wife, Bonny Lee Bakley, upon his departure.

According to his IMDb page, the “controversial” actor starred in over 163 films and television series over his lifetime. One of his most recognizable roles was Detective Tony Baretta in the 1975 television series Baretta.
Robert featured alongside the late actor Dana Elcar, Edward Grover, and Tom Ewell in the program. In Cold Blood, Our Gang, and Lost Highway, starring David Lynch, 77, and Patricia Arquette, 54, are among his other well-known works.
Robert won seven honors for his work over his career, including an Emmy in 1975 for Best Lead Actor in a Drama Series for his role in Baretta.
The next year, Robert won his first and only Golden Globe for his work on the same television series. Later, in 1976, he won another People’s Choice Award for his performance as Tony Baretta!
2. He passed away at the age of 89
On March 9, 2023, it was revealed that the deceased television celebrity had passed away at the age of 89 in Los Angeles. Noreen, his niece, was the family member that broke the news to Deadline at the time.
Thursday, several of his supporters took to Twitter to express their sorrow over his passing. One admirer tweeted, “RIP Robert Blake.
#legend,” while another added, “And you can take that to the bank!” Actor Robert Blake has passed away. According to a family member, Robert lost his battle with heart illness and passed away as a result.
3. He Had Three Marriages
The former Hollywood celebrity was married three times during his lifetime. Robert and his first wife, Sondra Blake, 86, were married in 1961 and divorced 22 years later. Throughout their marriage, they had two children (more on that below).
Eventually, he married Bonny Lee Bakley in 2000. According to the LAPD website, the blonde beauty was murdered in 2001, bringing an abrupt end to their marriage.
In their first year of marriage, Bonny and her then-husband welcomed a daughter. In 2017, he married actress Pamela Hudak for the last time. The couple called it quits in 2018, and according to TMZ, Robert was the one who initiated the divorce.
4. Robert was exonerated for the murder of his second wife
As indicated previously, Robert was acquitted of the murder of Bonny in 2005. In April 2002, he was arrested and accused of the death of the deceased 44-year-old; however, three years later, a jury declared him not guilty.
LA County documents indicate that Bonny was discovered in Robert’s automobile outside of his North Hollywood restaurant at the time of the event. Moments after Robert allegedly “escorted” her to the car, she was tragically shot in the head.
According to Deadline, after hundreds of interviews and a lengthy investigation, the jury found him not guilty of persuading a former stunt double he met while filming Baretta to murder his wife.
At the time of her death, Robert claimed he had gone to the restaurant to recover his “forgotten” gun, and upon his return, he supposedly discovered her dead.
5. The actor was a Father
In addition to being an actor, Robert was also a proud father. Sondra bore him his first two children: Noah Blake, 58, and Delinah Blake, 57. Later, he gave birth to Rose Lenore Sophia Blake, age 22, with his deceased wife, Bonny.
Rose was just eleven months old when her mother passed away. During a 2019 interview with PEOPLE, she opened out about her difficult upbringing. “It’s difficult when everyone talks about you but you don’t talk about yourself,” she said at the time. “I am now.”
