Is Clarence Franklin Married? Relationship

Throughout his existence, Clarence was married twice. He was married for the first time to Alene Gaines. They exchanged marital vows on October 16, 1934, and divorced in 1936.

After that, Clarence married Barbara Siggers. On June 3, 1936, they exchanged vows of marriage. Erma, Cecil, Aretha, and Carolyn were their combined four offspring.

Vaughn was Barbara’s second child from a previous relationship. Clarence adopted Vaughn following their marriage. After her marriage ended, Barbara moved to Buffalo, New York, with her son Vaughn, but they were never divorced.

Barbara passed away at age 34 in 1952, and Clarence did not even attend her funeral. The cause of Barbara’s death was a cardiac attack.

Vaughn was never informed that he was not Clarence’s biological son, and was always regarded as if he were. Not until 1951 did he become aware of it.

Aretha Franklin stated in a 1999 radio interview that despite her gospel upbringing, her father allowed her to listen to and play pop music because he esteemed gifted individuals and never sought to limit his children in any way with regard to music or similar matters.

Great musicians of the time, such as Nat King Cole and Art Tatum, knew Clarence and spent time with him in his living room playing the piano.

Aretha Franklin remained grounded despite her fame, and her father reminded her of this when she believed she was forbidden from doing housekeeping.

Aretha Franklin recalled an eye-opening conversation with her father in which he informed her that her growing popularity did not exempt her from doing the dishes. She then continued,

I haven’t been a celebrity since then. That was precisely what I required. He stabilized me and restored my equilibrium, and from that point forward, I was no longer a celebrity but rather a commoner.

Aretha Franklin revealed in an interview with CNN that her father taught her timing, phrasing, and numerous coaching techniques from the very beginning.

Her father had predicted that she would sing for kings and queens one day, and she did just that.
