The “Can We Talk” singer opens up in a sit-down conversation with the PEOPLE Everyday podcast about his career and coming out as gay.

The artist hasn’t publicly declared his romantic life as of yet. He does, however, appear in a number of media images with his female acquaintances.

When a Twitter user questioned Campbell on March 8, 2022, about what they believed their mother believed about the sexuality of a number of well-known musicians, Campbell responded, “Tevin is,” along with a rainbow flag and a relaxed emoji. This led to suspicions about Campbell’s sexual orientation spreading.

Tevin Campbell Admits To Being Gay

Tevin Campbell, an R&B artist best known for his singles “Can We Talk” and “I’m Ready,” has revealed that he is gay.

In a quote-tweet response to a fan in March, Campbell apparently came out in public by stating “Tevin is,” along with the rainbow flag and sunglasses emojis, though he later removed the message. After several months, Campbell is now formally acknowledging his homosexuality.

On a People Everyday podcast episode that debuted on Thursday, Campbell talked about who he is.

The musician, now 45, came out to his family and close friends when he was 19 or 20, but he didn’t come out to the general public until this year. Earlier this year, he made a sexual allusion on Twitter by posting “Tevin is” and using a rainbow emoji.

In the late 1990s, he came out to his loved ones and ended his recording career.

According to sources, the singer claimed that being gay in R&B at the time of his greatest musical success in the early 1990s wasn’t a good idea. However, Black LGBTQ artists like Lil Nas X and Frank Ocean have paved the way.
