Unknown: The Lost Pyramid, a documentary about an expedition to find lost treasures, will soon be available on Netflix. Two of the most renowned Egyptologists in the world, Dr. Mostafa Waziri and Dr. Zahi Hawass will embark on an excursion in the Saqqara desert outside of Cairo, Egypt.
On July 3, 2023, the documentary will be accessible on Netflix. In one hour and twenty-four minutes, the first episode of the four-part Unknown documentary series will be made available. The show, which was developed by Netflix in collaboration with the well-known production company Story Syndicate founded by Liz Garbus and Dan Cogan, will feature tales of exploration and adventure in remote locations throughout the world. The first episode of the series was directed by Max Salomon, who is best known for his work on National Geographic Explorer (1985).

This Netflix documentary will chronicle the efforts of Dr. Mostafa Waziri and Dr. Zahi Hawass, two eminent Egyptologists searching for ancient treasures outside of Cairo in Egypt’s Saqqara Desert. Dr. Mostafa Waziri, a student and rival of Dr. Zahi Hawass, is looking for an undamaged tomb in an ancient necropolis as Dr. Zahi Hawass looks for the long-lost pyramid of an Egyptian tyrant.

In this documentary, Egyptian archaeologists delve into history and find tombs and relics that are more than 4,000 years old while looking for a pyramid that has been buried. In an effort to produce the biggest discovery and make their mark on history, both teams are working against the clock.
Stills from the excavation and the discovery of a 4,300-year-old woman’s mummy open the movie. The footage also shows the pursuit of a complete papyrus, which is regarded as being more valuable than gold. The teaser indicates that the Egyptologists would take the audience inside a full tomb during the first expedition of its kind.

The official series description reads as follows: Each video in the series “pushes the boundaries of knowledge, travels into uncharted regions, and unlocks the secrets of our world through the stories of remarkable people and places never before captured on camera.”
The final three installments are as follows:
- Unknown: Killer Robots – This title will focus on how artificial intelligence is permeating all levels of the military. It will follow military-funded scientists as they race to develop technologies.
- Unknown: Cave of Bones – This episode will focus on Paleoanthropologist Lee Berger’s discovery of the world’s oldest non-human cemetery. The story will take place in South Africa’s Cradle of Humankind.
- The last episode of Unknown: Cosmic Time Machine will look at NASA’s ambitious project to launch the James Webb Space Telescope.
