Rae Carruth, one of the most notorious professional sportsmen in history, has returned to the spotlight following the death of his collaborator in prison.
Rae Theotis Carruth, born January 20, 1974, is a convicted murderer and former wide receiver in the National Football League. Carruth was convicted of plotting to murder his pregnant girlfriend. Rae Carruth became a Muslim while serving his prison sentence. Rae Carruth began his adventure as a football scholarship student at the University of Colorado Boulder.
During his four seasons with the Colorado Buffaloes, Carruth was a superb wide receiver and first-team All-American. Carruth was selected 27th overall in the 1997 NFL Draft and signed a four-year, $3.7 million contract with the Carolina Panthers. As a rookie, he started 14 games and caught 44 passes for 545 yards and four touchdowns, earning him a spot on the all-rookie team.
Carruth, on the other hand, was convicted of murdering his pregnant girlfriend, Cherica Adams, in 2001. He was sentenced to 18 to 24 years in prison, and he was freed on October 22, 2018. Rae Carruth’s Accomplice Dies in Prison
Carruth, a former Carolina Panthers wide receiver, was sentenced to 18 to 24 years in jail for conspiracy to murder his pregnant girlfriend, Cherica Adams. Van Brett Watkins, a hitman convicted of his involvement in the operation, died at the age of 63. In 1999, Watkins and another accomplice agreed to fire the rounds that injured Carruths’ girlfriend, Adams.
He was found guilty of conspiracy, second-degree murder, and other offenses. His estimated release date from jail, according to his disciplinary records, was 2045. Watkins served his sentence for 20 years before dying of natural causes on December 3 in a hospital.
