American vocalist and performer Big Freedia is renowned for her contributions to the New Orleans subgenre of hip-hop. She enrolled in piano lessons and sang in the choir of the local Baptist church when she was a child.
In addition to Patti LaBelle, Freddie was influenced by disco superstars Sylvester, Michael Jackson, and Salt-N-Pepa through her mother.
Freedia continued to sing in the choir while attending Walter L. Cohen High School, where she was also appointed choir director.
Katey Red, a juvenile drag performer, performed bounce music in 1998 at a club near the Melpomene Projects, the neighborhood where Ross was raised. Ross initially joined Red’s performances as a backup vocalist and dancer.

Freedia and her partner, Devon, have been romantically involved for more than ten years. They initially encountered after Big Freedia’s relocation to Houston after the devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina in her birthplace of New Orleans.
Freedia and Devon became engaged around 2017 and intended to exchange vows in the French Quarter of New Orleans. Nevertheless, the wedding did not proceed according to plan.
The proceedings of their nuptial day were documented for Big Freedia’s previous reality show; however, the video never received airing. Resurfaced deleted footage showed Big Freedia bicycling away from the chapel while speaking on the phone and exclaiming, “I could not do this.”
Freedia explained that notwithstanding her preliminary arrangements for matrimony, she decided to cancel the ceremony on account of a multitude of personal concerns that were burdening her.
Despite the unorthodox nature of their matrimonial union, it appears that Big Freedia and Devon continue to be intimately involved, maintaining a robust relationship.
