A Utah court heard that a man suing Gwyneth Paltrow for a ski accident heard a “bloodcurdling scream” soon before the incident.
Terry Sanderson, 76, stated that it sounded “as if someone was out of control” and that he had never been struck so severely when skiing.
He accuses the actress of being culpable for the 2016 crash and is demanding damages of $300,000 (£245,000)
50-year-old Ms. Paltrow has denied responsibility and countersued $1 and her legal fees.
Monday, a ski instructor testified to the jury that the actress was not a reckless skier.
Gwyneth Paltrow testified on Friday that the incident in Park City, Utah left her knee sore and that she subsequently received a massage.
On Monday, Mr. Sanderson remembered hearing the scream in the moments before the incident, adding,
“It sounded as if someone had lost control and was about to crash into a tree and die.”
He claimed that he had never been struck so severely when skiing, characterizing the collision as a “serious, serious slap.”
Mr. Sanderson also told the court he had experienced physical, mental, and emotional injuries from the event, describing himself being a “self-imposed recluse” since.
He stated that his physical troubles had altered his connections with his children, contributed to his separation from his girlfriend, and caused him to lose friends.
Last week, an attorney for Terry Sanderson told the jury that the collision at the Deer Valley ski resort was caused by the “reckless” actions of the Hollywood actress.
Mr. Sanderson recalled hearing a “very angry” male voice accusing him of causing the collision. This voice was later identified as Deer Valley ski instructor Eric Christiansen’s.
Mr. Sanderson stated that the individual insisted he was the “bad guy” and was attempting to intimidate him.
Mr. Christiansen stated in his own evidence that it was “crazy” to suggest he was hostile towards Mr. Sanderson, considering that instructors who engage in conflicts with visitors “do not last” at the ski resort.
He told the jury Ms. Paltrow was not a “reckless” or “dangerous” skier and was skilled at “making short radius turns”.
Mr. Christiansen, who taught Ms. Paltrow’s son Moses that day, stated that neither she nor Mr. Sanderson had requested assistance from a ski patrol following the incident.
If anyone had asked for assistance, “that would have changed everything,” he said, because when people are injured, ski patrol must be summoned to take statements and assess the severity of injuries.
Mr. Christiansen also denied there had been a “cover-up” to protect the actress.
