On February 21, 1983, Daniel Ek was born in Stockholm, Sweden. As stated by Money Inc. and Famous Zoom, Ek was raised by his mother and stepfather. Ek reportedly had a passion for technology at a young age. At the age of 13, Daniel Ek started building websites for clients, and over time, his business grew significantly. Before reaching 20, he had hired other students from his class to work for him, and within a few years, he had about 25 individuals directly reporting to him.
Ek studied engineering at the KTH Royal Institute of Technology after graduating from IT-Gymnasiet in Sundbyberg in 2002. He ultimately decided to drop out of college to pursue a job in technology, though. Ek afterward started working for the Swedish auction company Tradera.
