How did Robbie Savage start his Professional Career?
Savage began his football career with Liverpool F.C., despite the fact that he never played for them in a competitive match.
He signed for Stoke City after spending the 1982–83 season on loan at Wrexham, but after only seven appearances in the first four months of the following season, he left for Bournemouth in December 1983.
He was a part of the Third Division team led by Harry Redknapp that defeated Manchester United 2-0 in the 1983–84 FA Cup. Savage briefly played for Bradford City before transferring to Bolton Wanderers in September 1987 for a fee of £30,000.
He made his Bolton debut on September 12 against Halifax Town and got his first goal for the club a week later against Torquay. He secured Bolton’s promotion from the Fourth Division on May 7, 1988, by scoring the game-winning goal against his former team Wrexham.
In 1989, he participated in the Football League Trophy final at Wembley. On April 7, 1990, against Preston North End, Savage made his final professional outing. During the game, he broke his leg, and as a result of the accident, he had to retire.
