WWE inked a contract with Tom Budgen in June 2016. Under the ring name Aleister Black, he made his WWE debut on January 7, 2017. On April 11 at NXT TakeOver: Orlando Championship, Black made his ring entrance and defeated Andrade Almas.
Then, at NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn III, he defeated Itami to demonstrate victory once more. He was bullied by Velveteen Dream during the same session, which helped NXT TakeOver: WarGames win their match. As in the previous match, Black triumphed against Dreams.
