He is the son of Carlester Crumpler Sr., who was inducted into the East Carolina University Athletics Hall of Fame in 1980 and the North Carolina Sports Hall of Fame in 2002, and the younger brother of former Seattle Seahawks and Minnesota Vikings tight end Carlester Crumpler.

How did Alge Crumpler start his Professional Career?
Crumpler attended New Hanover High School in Wilmington, North Carolina, where he lettered in both football and track & field. He switched between playing linebacker and tight end at the start of his football career.
Alge Crumpler received All-Midwest 4-A Conference honors in his senior year. He won the State Championships in the shot put and discus three times apiece in track and field. He completed high school in 1996.
After completing high school, Crumpler enrolled at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. In each of his final three seasons with the Tar Heels, he was selected for the All-ACC first team.
As a sophomore, Crumpler has 24 receptions for 278 yards and four touchdown catches. As a junior, he caught 20 passes for 191 yards.
He recorded 23 receptions for 287 yards and one touchdown during his senior year, which helped him place second in the All-American vote.
In 2003, Crumpler was selected for his first Pro Bowl after starting all 16 games for the Falcons and racking up 44 receptions for 552 yards and three touchdowns, the most by a Falcons tight end since 1980.
In 2004, he participated in and started 14 games for the Falcons, assisting them in reaching the NFC Championship.

Crumpler finished the regular season with 48 catches for 774 yards and six touchdowns, earning him a spot in the Pro Bowl.
In 2005, Crumpler rejoined the Falcons, starting 16 games, setting career highs in catches (65 for 877 yards, 5 for touchdowns), and starting 16 games. He was also selected for his third consecutive Pro Bowl.
Crumpler had a career-high 56 receptions for 780 yards and eight touchdowns in 16 games in 2006. In his first season, Crumpler started 10 of the 14 games without Michael Vick as quarterback.

On August 9, 2009, he participated in the Titans’ first preseason game while weighing almost 300 pounds after putting on an estimated 30 pounds over the winter.
On the other hand, Crumpler started 14 of the Titans’ 16 games in 2009 and had 27 receptions for 222 yards and one touchdown. He participated in a blocking unit that helped Chris Johnson of the Titans gain 2,006 running yards during the season.
